- Are you still playing dust514?
Yep.
- What do/did you like about dust514?
The EVE connection was a large draw, that it doesn't actually exist is a minor problem. An FPS where outcomes actually matter beyond the match was also attractive. Again, not really the case. Hmm, other things I currently like... the Laser Rifle has some cool mechanics underpinning it. The customisation aspect feels good even if in actuality it's pretty flawed. Right, stretching now... uh... the lore of the EVE universe is interesting albeit highly underutilised in-game?
Gods, that question was hard. Most of the attempts at positives were attached to a negative, too.
- What do/did you dislike about dust514?
Oh boy, where to start. Best bullet this one:
- Game modes are terrible. This means all gameplay is terrible. - On top of being terrible they're also limited, with nothing else to do. - Lack of good game modes with a strong focus and an Attacker VS Defender scenario has hamstrung the map designers. They can't engineer maps to promote certain tactics and playstyles if they've got nothing to work with. - Infantry and vehicular game are seriously disconnected. This is actually more to do with the dire game modes and by extension map design, not balancing. - ...Though I guess while we're on the subject, the balancing. - EVE connection is essentially non-existent. - Performance issues. - It's hard to care about PC or FW. Not much consequence to either, feels like. - New Player Experience. - Intermediate Player Experience. - Veteran Player Experience. - The time limit of 1 month to become passable at a single role, 4 to become good at it. - Passive SP limited to one character per account in addition to the above point. - Some gear increasing in effectiveness exponentially at PRO, widening the chasm between low-SP and high-SP without compelling reason. Extenders jumping from 22/33/66 for example. 29/44/66 or 22/33/44 is more sensible. - Lack of any interesting economy. - Lack of pink Quafe suits. - That AURUM announcer in the Warbarge - 100% consistency in events being disappointing. - Redline, while I understand *why* it's there, it is still an intrusive mechanic in it's current implementation around many points. Can be a very artificial barrier in taking sensible defensive action in some cases. - MLG sillyness that they brought some guy in for. I mean, really?
Moving on, though I'm sure I've forgotten some things.
- Do/did you have fun playing dust514?
Yeah, can be fun. Still banking on it getting better which makes me an optimistic fool. If they brought in the rolling SP cap I'd be very happy 'cause then I'd be more at ease just popping in once every fortnight or so. It's not that I don't enjoy playing, it's just I kinda resent being incentivised into playing past the point where I'm enjoying myself. I don't actually do that very often so I don't really keep up in the SP stakes... it's just that many others do. That's bad for twofold reasons. #1: it makes players burn out faster, causing playerbase losses in the long term. #2: MCC AFKers.
- Do you think it should be totally reworked?
Yes, absolutely.
- If you're not playing dust514 anymore, would you give it a second chance if they totally rework it?*
Yes. |
